I am getting more and more confident that I can reboot now. It is getting easier day by day.
Can't believe I was (and probably still am) addicted to porn. Things which I was struggling to learn for the past few years are now turning out to be simple. Probably because my focus and concentration have improved. I am ahead of schedule with most things.
Try it out guys, the actual "you" is much better than the virtual porn addicted "you".

Hi qwaknwoo, can you please share some helpful tips about how you got into the right frame of mind? It will help others.
Particularly what didn't help and what made you fall back and what helped. That would be very helpful for friends here.

With regards to the right frame-of-mind, let me try and explain:

We are dealing with porn addiction. First you need to understand the nature of the addiction and your behavior.
Porn addiction consists of the following:

Dopamine addiction
Desensitized brain circuitry


The dopamine addiction part is simple. When you watch porn dopamine floods your system, generally more so than when you enjoy a real sexual experience, and certainly maintained at a heightened state for a more prolonged period of time.

The desensitization occurs because you end up needing more and more of a dopamine release to experience the same pleasurable state, leading to more extreme porn, or more time devoted to it. This also leads to affecting real sexual experiences, because your body can't produce enough dopamine without the massive amount of stimulation its become accustomed to, leading to erectile dysfunction.

So this is what is happening.

The way to recover is to stop porn completely. And because you have created certain pathways in the brain, even after you fully recover, if you start to watch porn again it may be even easier to get hooked again. So we must bear in mind that recovering from addiction is not simply the case of avoiding porn until you feel better. You need to ensure that you don't fall into the trap again.

So I looked at the reasons why I looked at porn and started understanding and recognizing the difference between a genuine state of arousal and a dopamine craving.

For me, and every other porn addict, it's often the case that we don't feel aroused before we start watching porn. There's often something else beforehand. Maybe you're bored or angry or upset or something. Some sort of adverse emotional state that triggers a dopamine craving. And because we've been so used to only satisfying that craving with the stimulation from porn, we have floundered in our ability to cope with adverse emotional states.

So before I started watching porn I would make a list of how I was feeling beforehand. If I thought I was just aroused, I really questioned myself, because it was not often that I was alrady hard before I decided to watch porn. In fact, I got myself to the point where I could barely get hard even to porn, but still I would try and masturbate to it.

Once I had a list of all of these "triggers" I started working out what would be appropriate responses. So if I was bored I would write down that I should read or go for a walk or something.
Then, whenever the urge struck me I would, without thinking, complete the alternative task. I would still get a normal dopamine release from it and I would be slowly rewiring my brain back to normal.

I also made sure not to look at quitting porn as "giving something up".
I would look at it as an opportunity to better myself.

In reality, the dopamine cravings aren't very strong. What makes giving up a porn addiction difficult is the mental brainwashing we've taught ourselves. That it alleviates boredom, depression, lonliness etc.

Once you break this down it because really easy.
