Building a map like that these days would be a huge undertaking, but is possible, if procedurally generated.

It is technically possible to do this on today's console hardware (see no man's sky), but it would be really difficult to make a fun game out of it (again, see no man's sky). Imagine riding on a horse realtime for 5 hours just to complete a fetch quest.

That can be taken care of by providing carriage for hire between major cities/town/villages and later fast travel, It's possible to make it that one doesn't have to run too long, But I was thinking would that be stable with good graphics ? I imagine such game with good graphics would be in TBs, or they can simply make things similar with little adjusting ?

But then, what's the point of having the large map in the first place

IMO, it's better to have a small/medium sized map with content that isn't spread out too much. Kinda like having a smaller piece of bread with a thick layer of jam rather than having a large piece of bread with jam spread out too thin to enjoy

Depends on how much assets are reused. For instance, every single dungeon in Skyrim uses the same assets. If you were to add 1000 more of them in the game, it wouldn't take more than a few MB's.

Modern games use lots of pre rendered video files and lots of translated audio. Also, if you were to double the size of textures, you would need 4 times the memory.

I mean number of cities/town can be increased to thousands as daggerfall (Sorry if I typed it hammerfell) had with 750,000 NPC, average distance between cities could be limited to 3-5 KM, There could be complex railway system as well

Just imagine what a game that would be
