DVD under XP

I have got a DVD for some academic purpose which can be played in Windows XP or Vista only. My present OS is Windows 8.1 64 Bit. Friends can you tell me whether there is any way out to play the same DVD in Windows 8.1. Thanks in Advance.

what's on the DVD?

If they are videos/flash (data files) etc, then they would work without any issues.
If there are executables then you can run them in "Compatibility Mode" for XP.

What happens during AutoPlay?
