Arthritis Treatment Suggestion and Experience

Hello Guys, I tried to search for existing thread on Arthritis Treatment. My mom is suffering from knee arthritis. I am looking for options available for treatment. We already consulted some doctors. One of the options suggested is 'knee replacement'. Has any one any experience into this kind of treatment? Please share with us.

Suggestion for knee replacement could be a scam. This is a trend in all 5 star hospitals. The problem is that you won't know if your really need surgical intervention... those assholes suggest surgery to everyone.

You need to visit other doctors as well to reach a consensus.

BTW, what all medications have you already tried? How old is your mother and what kind of arthritis is this?

Try to find a good acupuncturist. I know one in Bombay who overcomes this problem with accupuncture.

Why don't you try Ayurvedic medicines? There are tons of companies who manufactures ayurvedic medicines for arthritis treatment. Consult top MD Ayurvedic doctor in your city. Give it a try. It can be treated without operation.

I am a doctor and can tell you the story from all sides.

OsteoArthritis(OA) is an age-related degenerative disorder, which simply means irreparable wear-and-tear due to age.

Not all aging persons get significant amount of OA symptoms(pain, knee swelling, etc.).

Among the people who get OA symptoms, not everyone's disease progresses at the same speed. There are some people who will have only mild pain for 10 years, and there will be patients whose pain shall become severe and knee function become difficult within 3-5 years of onset of pain symptom.

Once you have understood the above point, you will be able to understand why different people have different opinion about different treatment modalities like pain-killers, ayurvedic medicine, physiotherapy, knee-replacement, etc.

There will be some people whose pain become severe only occasionally and that too only after physical exertion. These patients will become better or near normal with one or two doses of pain-killers and some rest.

There will be some people who pain may be more continuous, coming easily with only little of exertion, not responding to pain-killers. These patients will try some ayurvedic oil massage, physiotherapy, etc. Some of them will get limited results, either for the time-being or for a considerable time.

There will be some people who will be forced to go for knee replacement as no pain-killer, ayurvedic medicine, physiotherapy , etc. will work enough for them. Their pain will be unbearable, and knee function limited a lot. Even amongst these, there will be some people who will be very satisfied with knee replacement because the pain will go. Some people will have after-effects such as reduction in strength of leg muscles, etc.

So the bottom line is that you have to do trial-and-error with every treatment modality viz. pain-killers, ayurvedic medicines, physiotherapy, etc. until you reach the stage of knee replacement.

Hope you will understand why some people will swear of one particular kind of treatment modality over other. Everybody's body and disease is different. Therefore, not same medicine suits everybody the same.
